PROGRAMS

All children 3-5 (but not eligible for kindergarten) are possible candidates for the Addison Early Learning Center. Students enter the program through a developmental screening process and are determined to be at-risk or may enter the program with an Individualized Education Program (IEP). Our school has three programs: Preschool for All, Preschool Expansion and Early Childhood Special Education.

ASSESSMENT

The Addison School District 4 uses DIAL-4 and the Transdisciplinary Play-Based Assessment for the screening process. This screening covers language, concepts, motor skills, vision and hearing, social work, and medical/social history. Throughout the year, the preschool teachers collect work samples from each child and assess their work using Teaching Strategies Gold. Our portfolio system highlights your child’s accomplishments and growth based on the Illinois Early Standards and IEP goals. Trimester reports will be sent home to provide information regarding your child’s growth and development.

CURRICULUM

The Addison Early Learning Center follows the Creative Curriculum aligned to the Illinois Early Learning Standards for students from ages 3-5. Developmentally appropriate instruction will promote cognitive, emotional, social and motor skills growth. Our rooms are set up in interest areas such as dramatic play, art, discovery, blocks, sand and water, toys & games, and library. Our daily schedule include large group (10-15 minutes), small group (20-30 minutes), choice time (60 minutes), and gross motor (30 minutes). We learn through units of study throughout the year such as All About Me, Farm or Pumpkins, Transportation, Polar Animals, and Zoo to name a few.
